Because of the competition, and the quality of players, the big man thinks "we’re going to have a very good quarterback when we start the season". Neither guy made best in conference/country list (some how Colt McCoy and his 18 INTs did? I smell a bias news outlet).

With the QB situation working itself out, Shermi has spent his time in the trenches with the O-line. To those forgotten big guys, having "the head man work like that with offensive linemen, who never get any credit for anything, that [means] a lot." While they are enjoying the attention, I am worried. With only few returning guys from a nothing-special line, the new pro offense may never get a chance to get off the ground, literally.
